History of the RAM II Badger WASP based on Solido
The Montreal Locomotion Works completed the Ram tank prototype in June 1941, in response to a request from the Canadian Armoured Corps. This Canadian-built vehicle was based on the US M3 Grant chassis, with a cast-steel upper body modified to accommodate a locally-designed 360° rotating turret.
Between the end of 1941 and July 1943, 50 Ram I and 1,899 Ram II were built. The Ram II's improvements included improved suspension, a more reliable clutch, a simplified body design with the removal of various hatches and, above all, a more powerful main armament: a 6-pounder gun. Ammunition capacity was 92 6-pounder shells and 4,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition for the three machine guns.
The flamethrower version of the late-production Ram II is called the Badger. The Ronson flamethrower is derived from the Wasp caterpillar. Installed in place of the body-mounted machine gun, the weapon is fed by four tanks housed in the tank body. The opening for the turret is sealed by a steel plate fitted with a turret.
