History of the HUMVEE M1151 based on Solido
The M1151 is an improved model of the M1114 armored HMMWV. It is more suitable for operations during various military conflicts and peacekeeping operations, as its armor provides a certain degree of passenger protection. The M1151 has a heavier chassis and an upgraded engine to support the increased weight of the additional armor. The US Army plans to replace older HMMWVs with this unique model to reduce maintenance costs.
Basically, the M1151 is similar to the previous M1114, which was adopted in 1996. There are only a few small external differences between the two, which make it possible to recognize the new vehicle. The M1151 was planned to replace the older M1025, M1026 and M1114 weapons carriers in service with the US Army. Two armor kits are available for this vehicle. Basic kit A can be factory installed. There is another optional add-on kit B which is bolted to kit A in field conditions. It further enhances ballistic protection and provides a certain degree of protection against mine blasts and improvised explosive devices.
The shooter's protection kit is offered as an option. The M1151 was specifically designed to have the same track width as main battle tanks. This function allows the vehicle to move in the tracks left by main battle tanks. The M1151 is equipped with a central tire inflation system and runflat tires. Even with punctured and damaged tires, the M1151 can still travel 30 miles at a maximum speed of 30 mph. When equipped with a deep wading kit, the M1151 can negotiate water obstacles up to 1.52 m deep. The M1151 is airborne and can be parachuted. In addition, it can be transported suspended by certain helicopters.
