History of the VT4 standard 2 ACMAT/ARQUUS
The VLTP NP aims to mainly replace the P4 light all-terrain vehicle dating from the 1980s, more than 500 examples of which are withdrawn from service each year. It will ensure the rapid movement of military personnel, whether or not equipped with feline equipment, across the national territory and stabilized theaters of external operations.
With a total authorized weight of less than 3.5 tonnes, it will offer a payload of 900 kg and will thus transport up to 5 soldiers and their equipment on all types of terrain. The VLTP is a Ford Everest 4x4, station wagon type, from the manufacturer's Commercial range. This meets the specifications which required an easily air-transportable vehicle, with confirmed crossing capabilities, adapted to our roads, relatively inexpensive, and meeting the wishes of our military who can no longer stand the antediluvian P4.
The Army looked into the case of the Everest, referenced UGAP, but not marketed in Europe: a vehicle dedicated to Africa or South East Asia, of the same size as in Europe, but with capacities incredible for the price.
The VLTP-P, Variant protected against small arms fire, will be intended to serve as a liaison vehicle on OPEX but its use on the front line does not seem planned. Some are already mentioning the under-motorization of this VLTP-P which is heavier than the base VLTP for which the power-to-weight ratio is already judged to be just correct with its 2.2 turbo-diesel.
