History of VIB based on Solido
After the retirement of the good old US half-track with Maxon mount, the Air Force no longer had any heavy equipment for the defense of its air bases.
The arrival of the VAB in the AdT opens up possibilities for strengthening the armament of the 12.7 machine guns which have become obsolete. The Air Force is moving towards a version of the VAB equipped with a single-seat turret armed with a 20mm GIAT M893 cannon and a 7.62mm machine gun called TOUCAN TC 20-13.
The new vehicle took the name VIB for Base Intervention Vehicle (or Armored Vehicle) and entered service with the Air Force in 1981.
