History of the Tamiya-based Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar

306 Sd.Kfz. 166 were produced by Deutsche Eisenwerke between April 1943 and March 1945; the late version -Abschlußserie- was produced from June 1944, 166 units based on Pz. IV Ausf. H and J. A 300 hp Maybach HL120TRM engine propelled the 28.2-ton vehicle at 40 km/h, while 470 l of petrol gave a range of 210 km.
The 5 tankers were at best protected by 100 mm of steel. The powerful 150 mm "Sturmhaubitze 43 L/12" howitzer was equipped with 38 shells. Two Rheinmetall MG 34 7.92 mm machine guns, supplied with 600 rounds, completed the Brummbär's armament.
This final version of the Wehrmacht's Grizzly was the best of the lot. The Stupa was used in combat in France, Italy and on the Eastern Front to support German infantry.
