History of the Sherman T1E3 Aunt Jemima mine clearance machine based on Tamiya
With over 49,000 units produced, the Sherman medium tank was by far the most widely produced tank of the Second World War. A multitude of versions and variants of this tank were produced for a wide range of roles. In 1944, 200 units of the T1E3 system were specially produced for battlefield mine clearance, with 10 discs and a weight of 26.7 tons (disc weight: 2.09 tons, diameter: 2.44 m, thickness: 7 cm). A device attached to the rear of the body enabled another tank to push the Sherman T1E3 if necessary.
This Sherman had a crew of five and was armed with an M3 75 mm turret gun (97 shells) and two Browning M1919A4 7.62 mm machine guns (coaxial and body) with 4,750 rounds of ammunition.
The first deployment of the Sherman T1E3 was in Italy in May 1944. The Sherman T1E3's limited mobility made its use tricky and restrictive.
