History of the Renault AGC 3 cargo truck
It wasn't until January 1940 that the first AGC 3 heavy sanitary units were, not without difficulty, ready for delivery. Planned for December 1939, production was delayed by the late submission of the sanitary body drawings, the lack of external bodybuilders, and the prevailing economic climate.
After a number of technical problems, more or less solved, the first deliveries were made in mid-January, and became a matter of urgency, with deliveries of 30 and 20 ambulances a day. By May 20 1940, a total of 2853 AGC heavy ambulances had been delivered to the French Army.
The AGC 3s were intended to be the first vehicles to be fitted with NRBC equipment, with a body overpressure system to prevent passenger intoxication in the event of passing through a gas blanket, but with the armistice, Renault had no time to get the production process underway.
