History of the PVP Panhard turret PL80 Afghanistan
The PVP is produced at Panhard's two industrial sites, in Marolles-en-Hurepoix (Essonne) and Saint Germain-Laval (Loire). To date, the PVP program has involved a total of around one million man-hours for Panhard and its subcontractors. On September 6, 2011, the French defense procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement) placed an order with Panhard General Defense for 200 PVPs to be delivered to the French army in 2012.
An order for a further 100 units is included in a conditional tranche. This order is in addition to the initial contract for 933 PVPs awarded in 2004, the last of which will be produced in December 2011. Vehicles not equipped with a WASP will benefit from the PL80 shooter protection system, enabling the weapon to be used with the head out, in conditions of protection consistent with those of the vehicle itself.
