History of the Panhard ERC 90 Sagaie
Maximum firepower for minimum weight made the AML a particularly popular vehicle. The SAGAIE uses this principle with a GIAT TS 90 turret, i.e. a 90 mm anti-tank gun, for a total mass of 8.1 t in combat order.
The many qualities of the SAGAIE make it suitable for operating in all theaters of operations. Thus, its weight allows air transport by Transall, while displaying good firepower, NBC protection possibilities, amphibious capabilities and excellent mobility. These particularities are the reasons which have ensured its success with many customers on 5 continents.
Developed with Panhard's own funds, this vehicle was intended for export. It was first acquired by foreign armies before equipping the French army at the end of 1980.
