History of the M1126 Stryker based on Solido
The M1126 Stryker is an American 8×8 wheeled armored personnel carrier. It was developed in the late 1990s by General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada. The M1126 Stryker entered service in 2002. The Stryker is named in honor of two American soldiers killed in service in two different wars and who were awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, one in World War II. world, the other during the Vietnam War.
The M1126 Stryker is developed from the Canadian LAV-III Kodiak on the mechanical basis of the Swiss Mowag Piranha III armored vehicle. It has the remotely operated RWS M-151 Protector turret which can accommodate a 12.7 mm M2HB heavy machine gun or a 40 mm Mk-19 automatic grenade launcher. It is not amphibious, but its floor is waterproof.
It can therefore cross fords and small streams. The fuel tanks are mounted externally and are designed to blow away from the hull in the event of an explosion.
The engine and transmission can be removed and reinstalled in less than an hour. The drive wheels can switch between the 8x4 configuration on road and the 8x8 configuration on rough terrain. A wide range of armored vehicles is developed on the M1126 Stryker chassis. All versions of the Stryker equip the SBST brigades, Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of the American army.
