History of the XLR Leclerc tank
The XLR model of the Leclerc tank is the modernized version of the French "Scorpion" program to operate in a network with other vehicles such as the Griffon and the Jaguar. The key improvements are protection, connectivity, and armament. The reinforcement of the protection is characterized by reinforced composite armor against IEDs, an active protection system (APS) to intercept missiles and the AZUR kit intended for urban combat.
Equipped with the SICS (SCORPION Information and Command System), it shares tactical data in real time with other units, optimizing coordination and decision-making. The armament is improved with a Herstal remote-controlled turret and the possibility of firing programmable 120 mm ammunition. The suspension has been reinforced and the interior layout modernized for better crew efficiency.
