History of the AMX 10 SEPAR

The AMX 10 SEPAR dates back to the early 1970s, when France sought to replace its Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle (EBR) with a more modern vehicle. The project led to the development of the AMX-10 RC (Roues-Canon), a wheeled armored vehicle armed with a 105 mm cannon, designed to combine mobility, speed, and firepower. The first prototypes were tested in 1976, and the first delivery to the French army took place in 1979, to the 2nd Hussar Regiment in Sourdun.

Over the decades, the vehicle underwent several upgrades. In the 1980s and 2000s, its engine, communication and firing systems were improved. The RCR (Remise à Niveau) program in the 2000s reinforced its turret, sensors, and mobility. More recently, the SEPAR (SystèmE de Protection EEI) program added enhanced protection against improvised explosive devices and asymmetric threats, with additional armor and side skirts, thus adapting the vehicle to modern conflicts.
