Historique du Jagdpanzer IV L/70 (A) Intermediate lot base Tamiya
The Jagdpanzer IV L/70 (A) Zwischenlösung was the last armored vehicle to be put into service by the German army. Its design dates back to mid-1944, and was intended to adapt the excellent L/70 75 mm gun to the Panzer IV chassis. A prototype was ready in July 1944, with a raised Jagdpanzer IV casemate to allow the new gun to recoil, hence the name Zwischenlösung (intermediate formula).
This provisional solution called for a number of adjustments on the first models launched in September 1944, such as the fitting of solid rollers on the two front bogies to compensate for the weight and forward shift of the center of gravity.
This tank proved excellent in its role as a tank hunter, thanks to its armament, but was subject to numerous mechanical problems due to its weight and mounting on a Panzer IV chassis that had become almost obsolete by the end of 1944. The Zwischenlösung panzer IV was built in 278 examples until the end of the war, and was used on all fronts.
