Heavy-duty Bernard tank truck history
Only two months after the order had been placed in September 1939, the prototype of the tank transporter was rolled out. Eventually 73 vehicles had been supplied to the French armies before the Saturday, June 22, 1940 and the armistice with Germany.
This flatbed truck weighed 11.76 metric tonnes empty and its payload was 15 metric tonne. One 110 hp, 6 cylinders, 8.35 litres diesel motor granted this vehicle a top speed of 48 km/h. The range was beyond the specific requirements as 700 km could be travelled.
Following a too short operational service with the French Armies, these Bernard tank transporters were seized and re-used by the Wehrmacht amongst many others "Beute Fahrzeuge".
