History of the GMC 40 mm Bofors 22e FTA 2e DB base Tamiya

On November 24, 1943, in the 22nd GCFTA of the 2nd DB, the first GMC was equipped with a 40 mm Bofors artillery piece.
This piece of equipment had been "cobbled together" by the men of the 2nd DB. Indeed, the soldiers found that the towed gun was slow and moved very poorly off-road. Because this GMC has exceptional off-road maneuverability and can move quickly, the 40 mm Bofors gun was fitted to it.
Following the demonstrator, 32 machines were converted to 40 mm autocannons. Despite the lack of armor, which made personnel vulnerable, this vehicle proved extremely useful. On August 1, 1944, the group, integrated into the 2nd armored division, landed on Utah Beach with the rest of the division.
From an operational standpoint, it is worth noting that during the 2nd DB's advance towards Paris, the group ensured the protection of routes. Despite the loss of a number of vehicles, which were soon replaced, the group remained in existence until March 31, 1946, when it was disbanded.
