History of the German light tank Pz.II Ausf.D

The Panzer II version D was built by the Man firm between mid-1938 and mid-1939 in 43 units. This new light tank equipped a single cavalry unit and took part in the fighting in Poland in early 1940. The survivors were subsequently converted into flamethrower tanks.

Only the turret of the basic Panzer II was retained, all other elements were modified to improve the speed of this armored vehicle, which increased from 40 km/h to 55 km/h. A torsion bar suspension was installed, the running gear redesigned and the gearbox improved.
