History of the Corgi Churchill AVRE 290 mm D-Day Solido base
Among the many variants of the Churchill tank is this version, specially equipped with a 290 mm mortar for destroying barricades, bunkers and other buildings.
The genesis of the Churchill AVRE -Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers- can be traced back to the Dieppe landings in 1942, after which it was decided to equip the British armies with a close support vehicle with high firepower. To use a metaphor, the 290 mm ammunition was nicknamed the "flying dustbin" because of its size. With a single blast from its mortar, this veritable "building buster" could destroy the facade of a multi-storey building or reduce a house to rubble.
