History of the Canadian RAM II flamethrower tank based on Tamiya
The Montreal Locomotion Works completed the Ram tank prototype in June 1941 in response to a request from the Canadian Armored Corps. This Canadian-made vehicle took the chassis of the M3 Grant US by integrating a cast steel upper body, modified to accommodate a turret also of local design pivoting 360°.
Thus, from the end of 1941 to July 1943, 50 Ram Is and 1899 Ram IIs were built. The Ram II's improvements consisted of better suspension, a more reliable clutch, a body with a simplified design by the removal of various hatches and above all more powerful main armament: a 6-pounder cannon. The ammunition carried was 92 6-pound shells and 4000 7.62 mm cartridges for the three machine guns.
The flamethrower version of the end-of-production Ram II is called Badger. The Ronson flamethrower comes from the Wasp tankettes. The weapon installed in place of the body machine gun is powered by four tanks housed in the body of the tank. The opening provided for the turret is closed by a steel plate fitted with a cupola.
