History of the Brockway B666 bridge truck
The Brockway Motor Truck Company, an old business established in New York State, which flourished at the end of World War I, supplied various models of trucks to the US Army and civilian companies.
The sheet metal cabin was replaced in mid-1942, as on many American machines, by a tarpaulin model in order to save steel and volume for transport by boat. The all-metal platform had protection for the cabin, the upper corners of which had working lights.
A 3.6 tonne capacity gantry lift operated hydraulically back and forth using four cylinders and the front winch was operated by the driver from a control platform at the left rear of the cabin. Chains fitted with hooks allow the handling of the 4 track elements, the base plates and the 2 Treadway rubber floats transported on the truck bed.
The Brockway B666 bridge was completely autonomous and could implement the footbridges without any assistance thanks to its winches but could be helped by a Brockway C666 truck crane for the installation of a longer bridge with floats.
