History of the AMX30 B2 tank Operation Daguet

The AMX-30 is the second-generation main battle tank that equipped the French army for over thirty years. Around 3,500 of this second-generation tank were built, including over 1,100 derived versions from 1966 onwards (half of which were exported). Its chassis was used to develop other armored systems, such as the AMX-30D recovery tank and the Pluton missile-carrying vehicle. Designed by Ateliers de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux (AMX), the AMX-30 is an assembly of cast and wrought steel. Its turret is cast in a single piece.

The crew consists of four men. The pilot sits at the front left of the chassis, while the other three crew members (tank commander and gunner on the right, loader on the left) are seated in the turret. Operation Daguet was the name given to the French army's participation in the international coalition formed following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in the Gulf War (1990-1991). In 1991, the 4th Dragons Regiment deployed some 40 AMX 30 B2 tanks as part of the "Daguet" Division.
