History of the AMX 30 B2 Brennus tank

The AMX-30 is a second generation main battle tank, which has equipped the French army for more than thirty years. From 1966, 3,571 units were built, including derivative versions. Half of the production was exported. 1,100 chassis were used to develop other weapon systems on armored chassis, such as the AMX-30D recovery tank, the 155 mm AUF1 self-propelled howitzer or the Pluton missile launch vehicle.
Developed from 1998 and the ultimate evolution of the AMX-30, the Brenus, is an AMX-30B2 covered with 112 bricks of “GIAT BS G2” reactive armor and equipped with a new multi-fuel engine to compensate for the additional weight, the Renault-Mack E9 V8 of 750 HP (552 KW) made in the United States. It receives LIR-30 infrared decoy launchers and a Galix launcher, capable of using smoke pots or decoys of all kinds. The other chassis in service gradually benefit from this new engine.
