Construit à 25 000 exemplaires de 1937 à 1944, principalement par la firme Hanomag, ce véhicule, véritable bête de somme de la Wehrmacht servit sur tous les fronts. Ce tracteur d'artillerie remorquait les obusiers FH 18 de 105 mm et les canons antichars PaK 40 de 75 mm.
La fin du conflit arrivant, la pénurie de matériaux stratégiques se fit ressentir plus cruellement encore. Aussi, pour en économiser le maximum, la construction du Sd. Kfz. 11 fut largement simplifiée et le bois remplaça le métal partout où cela fut possible. L'aspect original de ce tracteur d'artillerie fut singulièrement altéré également par l'allongement du compartiment moteur et l'habitacle rustique, en bois.

Running from 1937 to 1944 the production of the 25,000 units of this vehicle has been mainly executed by the Hanomag Co. This Wehrmacht's workhorse served on all fronts. When used as an artillery tractor it could tow medium-sized FH 18 105 mm howitzers and anti-tank PaK 40 75 mm guns.
Towards the end of the conflict with the scarcity of strategic materials aroused the crucial need to spare steel and other metals. Thus the manufacturing of the Sd. Kfz. 11 went through a large simplification program. Wooden materials were used wherever possible: hull and driving cabin. Moreover the engine compartment got lengthened giving this late-war variant a significantly different appearance.
