344 Marder III furent produits par BMM (Böhmisch-Mährische Maschinenfabrik) d'avril à octobre 1942. Le moteur Praga EPA/2 six cylindres de 125 cv propulsait les 10,67 tonnes de ce véhicule à 42 km/h. Les 216 litres d'essence autorisaient 185 km d'autonomie.
Le canon soviétique Zis-3 de 76.2 mm pesait 1200 kg, affichait une vitesse initiale de 680 m/s et une portée de 13,2 km. Les quatre tankistes disposaient de 30 obus de 6,5 kg et pouvaient en tirer jusqu'à 15 par minute. Une mitrailleuse MG 37(t) de 7,92 mm complétait l'armement.
La combinaison du châssis du Pz. 38(t) et du canon soviétique permit aux combattants allemands de tenir le front de l'Est face aux chars ennemis techniquement supérieurs à cette époque. La " Martre " III servit aussi en Afrique du Nord avec succès au profit du DAK.

Between April and October 1942 BMM (Böhmisch-Mährische Maschinenfabrik) produced 344 Marder III. The Praga EPA/2 six cylinders engine yielded 125 hp. This 10.67 tonnes tank destroyer could reach a speed of 42 km/h. 216 litres of gasoline allowed a range of 185 km.
The 76.2 mm Soviet gun Zis-3 weighed 1,200 kg, had a max. range of 13.2 km and a muzzle velocity of 680 m/s. The crew of four could fire up to fifteen 6.5 kg shells a minute. 30 rounds were carried inboard. One 7.92 mm MG 37(t) machine-gun supplemented the armament.
This stop-gap combination of the Pz 38(t) chassis with the Soviet gun enabled the German armies to hold the Eastern front when facing at that time technically superior enemy tanks. The "Marten" III successfully served the tactical interests of the DAK in North-Africa as well.
