GAS50014 German artillery tractor Steyr RSO

La firme autrichienne Steyr conçu en 1942 cette véritable bonne à tout faire du front de l'Est qui passait dans la neige et la rasputiza (boue) grâce à ses chenilles. Une hauteur sous caisse de 55 cm associée aux chenilles donnaient au RSO ses capacités tout-terrain. Le train de roulement, volontairement simplifié rendait ce véhicule spartiate très polyvalent peu confortable.
Principalement employé pour le remorquage de pièces d'artillerie : canons anti-chars (PaK.) de 50, 75 et 88 mm, obusiers légers… Le RSO pouvait aussi transporter sur sa plate-forme une large variété de charges.
En trois années, plus de 28 000 RSO furent produits par Steyr, Klockner-Deutz-Magirus, Wanderer et d'autres. La production de la version 01 débuta dès 1942, celle de la version finale 03 en 1944.

The Austrian company Steyr designed in 1942 a special Eastern-front vehicle that could be driven through snow and rasputiza (mud) thanks to its tracks. These tracks along with its under hull clearance granted the RSO a good cross-country capability. The purposely simplified suspension and track system made this versatile Spartan vehicle uncomfortable.
The major task of the RSO was the towing of artillery: 50, 75 and 88 mm anti-tank guns (PaK.), light howitzers… This tracked vehicle could also carry onto its platform a wide array of cargo.
28.000 RSO have been manufactured in three years. The main contractors were Steyer, Klockner-Deutz-Magirus, Wanderer and others. The type 01 production started in 1942 and type 03 in 1944.
